After a wild opening victory against Czechia, Team Canada will look to keep the momentum going against Austria at the 2022 World Junior Championships.

The Canadians didn't get off to the start they wanted to and were trailing by two early on against the Czechs, but a historic performance by Owen Power and multi-point outings from Cole Perfetti and Mason McTavish helped propel Canada to a 6-3 victory. Power became the first defenseman in World Juniors history to score a hat trick for Team Canada in the tournament.

“A lot of guys had nerves… they obviously got up two on us there. We did a great job of battling back before the end of the period and then from then on, we were good," Jake Neighbours said following the win over Czechia. "We just knew we had to get those jitters out and we were good the rest of the game."

Meanwhile, it has been a different story for Team Austria to open the World Juniors. A positive COVID-19 test led to the Austrians having to quarantine and not knowing whether or not they would end up playing Finland on Monday. The game ultimately went on as scheduled, and in turn, Finland rolled past Austria with a 7-1 victory. Martin Urbanek scored the lone goal for the Austrians in the defeat.

"We had heavy legs after having to stay in the hotel the entire day yesterday," Urbanek told IIHF.com after the defeat. "Such things can happen. We did the best we can to prepare and had a good workout."

Austria will look to make the most of their Tuesday game against Canada, which is looking to go 2-0 to open the tournament.
