Simone Biles performed just one vault during the U.S. women's gymnastics final before she exited the floor. After getting her right foot wrapped, the star U.S. gymnast and gold-medal favorite returned to the floor wearing a white Team USA jacket.
Jordan Chiles took her place on the uneven bars and shortly thereafter, it was reported that Biles would miss the remainder of the competition.
What happened to Simone Biles?
In the immediate aftermath of the injury, NBC commentator John Roethlisberger noted Biles had pulled out due to a "mental issue." In a separate statement, Team USA gymnastics announced that Biles had withdrawn from the competition due to a "medical issue."
Via @USAGym: “Simone has withdrawn from the team final competition due to a medical issue. She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions.”

"We've just been told that, with regards to Simone withdrawing, it is not injury-related. It is a mental issue that Simone is having." -- John Roethlisberger

That will bring Biles' status for the rest of the individual event finals into question. She was expected to compete for six gold medals at the 2021 Olympics, including a defense of her 2016 all-around title at the Rio Olympics.
It's unclear what Biles' injury is at this point, but she detailed back in May that she has dealt with a nagging foot injury on an episode of "Simone vs. Herself." Perhaps she re-aggravated that issue.
In Biles' absence, Chiles, Suni Lee and Grace McCallum will perform in all of the team events. Each of their scores will count toward the USA's team total.
