The wheels are in motion to hold a lightweight bout between George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney, according to Eddie Hearn.

Hearn, the chairman of Matchroom Boxing, has explained on the DAZN Boxing Show that he is 'confident' there will be a fight between the pair.

A meeting between WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney and WBA, WBO, WBC Franchise, IBF champion George Kambosos would ultimately settle any arguments on who is the undisputed lightweight world champion.

In 2021 Kambosos shocked the fighting world when he defeated heavily-favoured Teofimo Lopez via decision.

The Australian boxer is now looking to secure his next fight in his home country, with potential challengers including Devin Haney and Vasiliy Lomachenko willing to travel overseas.

A bout with Haney appears most likely, and Hearn has elaborated on how negotiations are faring.

“There’s a lot of conversations between myself and Lou DiBella,” Hearn explained.

“The two promoters, we’re trying to figure out the structure of the deal, international TV, money being generated in Australia et cetera.

"We’re in a decent place ... I spoke to him [Kambosos] this morning, 3am his time ... I think everybody involved wants to make the fight happen.

"We’re talking about the financials, which will be the make or break part.

"Devin [Haney] has no problem going to Australia, obviously being vaccinated.

"It’s the fight to find the true undisputed champion of that division."

He also spoke about Kambosos' character, and why they are aiming to finalise a deal as soon as possible.

“I don’t think Geroge wants to wait for anything,'' he explained.

“He wants the biggest fights and to make as much money as he can.

"Waiting around is very dangerous, strike while it’s there, make big fights and money while it’s there.

"There will always be a cloud over this until that fight happens.

"It’s one of the best fights in boxing.”
