Rey Fenix, Jake Atlas injury updates following AEW show in Newark

Rey Fenix - AEW

On the night in which it was considered a new era for All Elite Wrestling, two stars suffered brutal injuries. One injury has become viral while the other was taped following AEW Dynamite.

In the main event of AEW’s debut on TBS, Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo defended the AEW Tag Team Titles against Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. During the match, Luchasaurus chokeslammed Fenix through a table. Immediately after, you could see Fenix’s arm was bent the wrong way and he quickly asked for medical help. The match was able to be finished without him, with Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy winning the titles.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, Fenix broke his arm. PW Insider went on to say that there is a chance his elbow may be dislocated. As of now, there is no timetable for his return. Fenix and Penta have recently been feuding with Malakai Black, with the latter interfering in their matches.

Another injury that took place happened on AEW Dark. Jake Atlas, who stepped away from pro wrestling to focus on his mental health, signed with the promotion the week after his debut match on AEW Dark: Elevation. During the tapings, Atlas took on Adam Cole. It is being reported from those at the event that after being hit by a Cole superkick following a springboard attempt, Atlas was clutching his knee. The finish of the match was altered due to him not being able to continue.
