Manuel Neuer, Phil Foden to Thomas Muller - Euro 2020 stars who have visited India

The interest around Euro 2020 is a crescendo right now, with the knockout stages set to start in a few days.

Teams like Germany, France, England, Spain and Italy have huge support among football fans in the country and it is not a rare sight to see fans stay up till late night to watch their favourite stars play.

But did you know that some of the star players who are featuring in the Euro Cup have visited India in the past and played in the country?

From Phil Foden to Jadon Sancho, here are nine players who have visited India before.

Manuel Neuer was a part of the Bayern Munich side which visited India in 2012 to play an exhibition match against the Indian national team in New Delhi. It was the farewell match of Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia. The Bundesliga giants had won the tie 4-0.
Real Madrid star Toni Kroos was also a part of the Bayern Munich contingent which visited India in 2012. Kroos operated on the left flank in that game and had provided an assist from which Thomas Muller scored the third goal of the match.

Unlike his compatriots Kroos and Neuer, Bayern Munich's India tour was not the first time Thomas Muller visited the country. The German star had come to India for the first time in 2009 as a part of Bayern Munich reserves side tour.

The Bayern Munich II side defeated East Bengal twice (1-0 and 5-0) at the Barasat stadium and then thrashed Siliguri Mayor's XI 6-0 in their final match of the tour at the Kanchenjunga stadium.

David Alaba, who left Bayern Munich after 11 years, this summer, had visited India during Bayern Munich's tour and played in the farewell match of Bhaichung Bhutia which the German club won 4-0.

Alaba is currently playing in the Euro 2020 and had led his team to the Round of 16 of the tournament. He is set to play for Real Madrid next season.

Jadon Sancho was the star attraction of the England side which took part in the FIFA U17 World Cup in India in 2017. Sancho had scored three goals in three appearances and had guided his team to the knock-out stage. Unfortunately, the winger had to leave the squad after the group stage and join his club Borussia Dortmund.

While Jadon Sancho was the star attraction of the England team before the FIFA U17 World Cup, it was Phil Foden who stole the limelight in the end. The Manchester City winger had scored three goals in the tournament including a brace in the final against Spain and was also the recipient of the Golden Ball Award.

Foden is currently an integral part of the England national team which has reached the Round of 16 in the ongoing Euro 2020 topping their group.

Turkish international and Schalke defender Ozan Kabak came to India in 2017 as a part of the Turkey U17 side at the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The young defender, who was on loan at Liverpool last season, was a part of the Turkish side in the Euro 2020 this season. Unfortunately, Turkey have been eliminated from the tournament after losing all three group games.

Jannik Vestergaard is an integral part of the Denmark national side who reached the round of 16 of the Euro 2020 finishing second behind Belgium in Group B.

But did you know that Vestergaard has visited India in the past? The 28-year-old player was a part of the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim side which came to India back in 2014 and played a friendly match against Mizoram All-star XI. The Bundesliga side won the tie 3-0.

Along with Vestergaard, Germany and Bayern Munich defender, Niklas Sule was also a part of the Hoffenheim team which came to India in 2014.

Sule has so far made just one appearance in the ongoing Euro 202, against Portugal in Germany's second match of the group where he came on as a substitute.
