Australia have completed a remarkable victory in Hobart, winning by 146 runs against England and finishing The Ashes off with a 4-0 win.

Cameron Green, Scott Boland and Pat Cummins all picked up three wickets on the final day at Bellerive Oval, as the visitors collapsed in truly embarrassing fashion, losing all 10 wickets for 56 runs after a hot start from Rory Burns and Zak Crawley in the fourth innings chase.

Travis Head was awarded Man of the Match honours for his century in the first innings, as well as picking up the Compton/Miller Medal for Player of the Series, scoring 357 runs including two tons.

Australia v England - Fifth Test LIVE day three updates and scores

Final score

Team 1st Innings 2nd Innings
Australia 303 155
England 188 124

40th over:  WICKET AND GAME OVER!!! Cummins finishes it off, knocking over Ollie Robinson's stumps.

"This has been embarrassing...they have thrown in the towel," Michael Vaughan said on  Fox Cricket.

"I just can't accept when I see an England team throw the towel in."

39th over:  WICKET!!! Mark Wood swings wildly at a couple of full deliveries and hits them for boundaries, before Cummins digs it in short and Wood belts it back onto his middle-stump. 9/123 in the 39th over.

38th over:  WICKET!!! What a catch behind the stumps from Carey! Woakes goes for a big swing off Boland and edges it, with the keeper managing to hang onto a quality snare. 8/115 after 38.

37th over:  WICKET!!! Cummins gets his first of the innings, as Pope walks across his stumps and gets castled. This game is well and truly over - only a matter of time now before Australia get these last few wickets. A poor collapse for England, losing seven wickets for less than 40 runs. 7/110 after 37.

36th over:  WICKET!!! Boland gets another as Billings chips it straight to Cummins at mid-on. Poor shot selection but it did appear to stick into the deck a little bit. Wicket maiden for Boland. 6/107 after 36.

"That's a soft dismissal, he was just looking to work it through the leg-side," Mark Waugh said on  Fox Cricket.

"It's just the pressure. It wasn't really there to play that shot."

35th over: Sam Billings gets off the mark with a single, that is surprisingly misfielded by Green at gully. Pope hooks along the ground for a single. 5/107 after 35.

34th over:  Pope gets it through the leg-side for two runs off Boland. 5/104 after 34.

33rd over:  Cummins continuing to bang it in, looking to open his account for the second innings. Nice short ball hits Pope on the shoulder. Green pulls off a trademark stop in the gully, saving four runs. Maiden over. 5/101 after 33.

32nd over:  WICKET!!! Boland knocks Root over, as the ball keeps very low and clips the bottom of off-stump. All the England skipper could do was stand and smile - nothing he could have done about that one. Wicket maiden for the new Aussie hero. 5/101 after 32.

32nd over:  Boland back into the attack now - still no sign of Nathan Lyon. Lads taking a quick drinks break as Root changes some of his gear. 4/101 in the 32nd over.

31st over:  Pope drives Cummins down the ground for a single, taking England to the 100-run mark. Positive cricket from England despite losing a few wickets in quick succession, as Root takes off for a nice quick single. 4/101 after 31.

30th over:  Misfield at mid-off leads to a boundary for Root, lovely shot. 4/99 after 30.

29th over:  A couple of sharp bouncers from Cummins and a play and miss from Ollie Pope produces an entertaining maiden over. 4/93 after 29.

28th over:  WICKET!!! Starc digs it in short to Stokes and he couldn't help but play the hook shot. Nathan Lyon makes no mistake with a lovely diving catch at deep mid-wicket, and England are in real trouble now. 4/93 after 28.

27th over:  Cummins back into the attack, and he forces a couple of plays and misses from Root. Maiden over. 3/90 after 27.

26th over:  Stokes takes two runs on the leg-side off Starc. 3/90 after 26.

25th over:  Nice quick bouncer from Green flies past the helmet of Root, who takes a single a couple of balls later and turns the strike over to Stokes. 3/88 after 25.

24th over:  Starc back into the attack now for Australia. Root flicks down to fine-leg for a single, before a play-and-miss from Stokes draws a few oohs and ahhs from the cordon. 3/86 after 24.

23rd over:  WICKET!!! England in real trouble now as Green gets it to nibble away from Crawley and the edge lands safely in the hands of Alex Carey behind the stumps, who takes a nice catch moving to his right. Green is on fire right now, fantastic bowling - an outstanding mix of pace, bounce and accuracy. This game has been turned on its head. 3/84 after 23.

22nd over:  Maiden over for Boland, with just a leg-bye coming from it. 2/83 after 22.

21st over: WICKET!!! Green looked to be troubling Malan a little bit, which is no surprise considering the bumper he gave him, and he's got his man now. Malan chops on and really couldn't handle that extra pace and bounce that Green is able to generate. Australia are right back into this game now, wicket maiden for Green. 2/82 after 21.

20th over:  Malan drives Boland on the up to deep point for a single. 1/82 after 20.

"I think it might be worth Nathan Lyon having a bowl...just to have a look at bit of spin," Shane Warne said on  Fox Cricket.

19th over:  Malan slashes it through point for a boundary, showing his intent early doors. Green says 'bugger it' and launches a nasty bouncer that crashes into the side of Malan's helmet. Brilliant bowling, and the England No.3 gets back up and dusts himself off, before the team doctors come out to check on him. Malan gets the all-clear and receives a new helmet. He almost chops on later in the over, but gets away with a single. Crawley finishes off the set with a beautiful cover drive for another boundary. 1/81 after 19.

18th over:  Boland chipping away now, maiden over. 1/72 after 18.

17th over:  Green continuing his over from before the tea break. Dawid Malan stops play before facing a ball, because of the security guard walking behind the sight-screen. Malan gets a boundary away to open his account. 1/72 after 17.

TEA BREAK

Great session for England comes to an end in disappointing fashion. Burns and Crawley were both looking fantastic at the crease, producing by far England's best opening partnership of the whole series. Unfortunately for Burns, his attempt to leave a rising delivery from Green went pear-shaped, and will be wondering what could have been after a hot start. Australia will take plenty of confidence from that wicket, and an interesting night-time session awaits.

17th over:  WICKET!!! Huge breakthrough for Australia, as Burns chops onto his stumps in an attempt to leave a rising delivery from Green. Disappointing for Burns, who got off to a great start and looked better this evening than he had all summer. The wicket from Green will take us to the tea break. 1/68 in the 17th over.

16th over:  Crawley tucks it off his hip through the leg-side for another boundary, lovely shot. 0/68 after 16.

"Boland got too straight, and this is exquisite timing from Crawley," Mike Hussey said on  Fox Cricket.

15th over:  REVIEW!!! Green and the slips cordon go up for a caught-behind, but the on-field umpire says not out. David Warner was particularly keen at first slip. There looked to be a gap between bat and ball and no hot-spot involved, but there was a small spike on Snicko that forced the third umpire into a second look. No conclusive evidence to overturn the decision unfortunately for Australia, so Burns survives for now. 0/64 after 15.

15th over:  Cameron Green into the attack for Australia - probably a good move as we near the tea break. Burns drives through cover for a boundary, despite the best efforts of Marnus Labuschagne chasing all the way and putting in a big dive.

14th over:  Crawley flicks Boland off his pads down to the fine-leg region for a boundary. 0/60 after 14.

13th over:  Burns pushes it nicely through the leg-side for three runs. England are looking really good here, and they've even gone ahead on  Fox Cricket's  WinViz for the first time the entire series. 0/56 after 13.

12th over:  REVIEW!!! Boland hits Crawley on the pads and the on-field umpire gives it not-out. DRS shows it to only be clipping the bails, meaning it will remain umpire's call. Another delivery hits the pads, but England scurry through for a leg-bye. Maiden over for Boland. 0/51 after 12.

11th over:  England move to the 50-run mark and they have done so in quick order. 0/50 after 11.

10th over:  Just a couple of runs off Boland's over. 0/49 after 10.

9th over:  Cummins changes ends and replaces Starc. Lovely flick from Crawley through mid-wicket races away to the boundary for another four runs. He backs it up again to finish off the over with another boundary, classy stuff. 0/47 after 9.

8th over:  Scott Boland into the attack for Australia, bringing a huge cheer from the Hobart crowd. Big shout for LBW but Australia opt not to review. Just one run off the over for Crawley. 0/37 after 8.

7th over:  Nice drive through the off-side from Burns adds three more to his tally. Big shout from behind the stumps for a caught-behind, but Starc doesn't go up for it and the ball was missing the bat by a fair margin. Burns almost chops onto his stumps later in the over, as the ball just bounces over the top of middle-stump. Starc gives him a juicy half-volley on leg-stump the next ball and he makes no mistake, flicking it away for another boundary. Four leg-byes finish off an expensive over. 0/36 after 7.

6th over:  Lovely on-drive down the ground from Crawley for a boundary off Cummins, and the England opener is showing plenty of intent now. 0/24 after 6.

5th over:  A bit of miscommunication between Burns and Crawley, but they avoid any chance of a runout. Burns flicks Starc behind square for a boundary, before getting greedy and chasing a wide delivery and missing out. 0/20 after 5.

4th over:  Crawley almost chops onto his stumps, before edging it just wide of Usman Khawaja at third slip for a boundary. There had been plenty of chat in the  Fox Cricket  box today surrounding the width of the Australian cordon, and it was on display there. 0/16 after 4.

"He needed to be half a metre to his right," Mark Waugh said on  Fox Cricket.

"He is too tight in to Smith. He would have (caught it)...he moved well, but if he was just a little wider he might have taken that."

3rd over:  Starc goes up for LBW but the umpire gives him no love. Crawley happy to leave anything outside off-stump early on here, but gets off the mark with a flick down to fine-leg for a single. Starc manages to square up Burns and hit him on the pads, but not much in the way of an appeal from the left-armer. Fox Cricket  footage showed one of the LBW chances would have been hitting the stumps, but Australia chose not to review. 0/12 after 3.

2nd over:  Pat Cummins opening up from the other end. Burns adds two more as he plays it safely through gully and point. 0/11 after 2.

1st over:  Mitchell Starc taking the new rock for Australia, as you would expect. Rory Burns - who has decided to untie his hair in an attempt to change his fortunes - is squared up on the second ball, but squeezes it through the cordon for a boundary. Zak Crawley gets struck on the pads, but the ball rolls away for four leg-byes. 0/9 after 1.

INNINGS BREAK

England did what they needed to do after the dinner break, restricting the runs for Australia and taking the final two wickets reasonably cheaply. Disappointing for Alex Carey to miss out on a half-century, but a solid knock from him nonetheless - and it's an important one that puts Australia in a good spot. Mark Wood was brilliant for England, finishing with 6/37 from 16.3 overs, and has earned himself plenty of admirers. Big few hours coming up in this game in Hobart, as the visitors are set a target of 271 with well over two days remaining.

57th over:  WICKET!!! Cummins the last man out for Australia, taking a big swing at Wood and getting his middle stump knocked over. Brilliant performance from Wood, who finishes with figures of 6/37 from 16.3 overs. Interesting session and a half coming up for both sides here. Australia all out for 155.

56th over:  WICKET!!! Carey falls one run short of a half-century, chasing a full and wide delivery from Broad and edging it behind to Billings, who takes a nice low catch behind the stumps. Nathan Lyon receives a huge ovation as he walks out to the crease, as the off-spinner starts off nicely with a flick off the pads and a lovely off-drive for two runs each. 9/155 after 56.

55th over:  Carey takes a single late in Wood's over. 8/151 after 55.

54th over:  Just two runs off the over of Broad, as Australia reach the 150-run mark. 8/150 after 54.

53rd over:  Carey cuts Wood over the top for a boundary, who is continuing to bang the ball in short for the most part. 8/148 after 53.

52nd over:  Broad continuing after the dinner break as well - the obvious choice for England. Carey squeezes it behind point for two runs. 8/144 after 52.

51st over:  Wood starting things off for England after the break and continues his bumper barrage. Cummins pops it up in the air the first time and cops it on the body the next. Maiden over. 8/141 after 51.

DINNER BREAK

A pretty even session overall. Australia may have lost five wickets, but they have got themselves to a lead of over 250 runs, and will be looking to add more after the break. For the visitors, Mark Wood has been fantastic and his short-ball barrage to the likes of Steve Smith and Travis Head has paid dividends, as he picked up his first five-wicket haul of the series. Stuart Broad has also been probing and has had plenty of LBW shouts, but only one of them has ended in a dismissal. England will want to get these last two wickets quickly and keep the deficit to under 300 runs, giving themselves plenty of time to chase down the total in the fourth innings and claim their first win of the series.

50th over:  An ugly hack from Cummins lands safely on the leg-side and helps him to another two runs. Carey squeezes it down to fine-leg for three runs, taking the Australian lead to the 250-run mark. Cummins takes a single off the short ball from Broad, before Carey hooks it for a boundary to take the Aussies to the dinner break. 8/141 after 50.

49th over:  Cummins gets it through the gap behind point off Wood and it gets to the boundary, poor fielding from Malan on the rope. A short ball from Wood strikes Cummins on the glove/arm but it lands safely and he gets off strike with a single. Carey hooks safely down to fine-leg for a single. Cummins also gives Pope another catch at short-leg, but it lands safely. 8/130 after 49.

48th over:  Cummins leaves a seaming ball from Broad that only just goes over the top of off-stump. Just the single from Cummins off the over. 8/123 after 48.

47th over:  ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL REVIEW!!! Pat Cummins was given out LBW on his very first ball on the field, but he reviews it immediately and DRS shows the ball was missing off-stump. Fantastic bowling from Wood, who drilled a brilliant yorker into the Aussie skipper's foot. Plenty of drama out there at Bellerive Oval. 8/122 after 47.

47th over:  WICKET!!! Wood gets his five-fa, digging the ball in at Starc's hip and the left-hander tucks it straight to Ollie Pope at short-leg. Great moment for the England quick, who has been fantastic throughout the series and earned every bit of that five-wicket haul, as he raises the ball towards the crowd. 8/121 in the 47th over.

46th over:  SUCCESSFUL REVIEW!!! Carey survives again - Broad traps him in front LBW and the on-field umpire raises his finger. Australia opt to review it immediately and it was shown to be pitching  just  outside the line of leg-stump. Tough break for England, who have been toiling hard. 7/121 after 46.

"I feel bad for Stuart Broad...absolute millimetres in that," Brett Lee said on  Fox Cricket.

45th over:  Wood back into the attack now as well - England smell blood in the water and will want to get these last few wickets in quick succession. Big shout for caught-behind down the leg-side, but England opt not to review it and Carey survives again for now. Carey squeezes a short ball behind point for two runs. A nasty short ball to finish the set catches Carey on the body. 7/116 after 45.

44th over:  WICKET!!! Broad back into the attack for England and he strikes immediately. Green is trapped in front LBW, and despite an on-field decision of not-out, England opt to send it upstairs and DRS shows the ball was going on to hit the stumps. Big wicket for the visitors - Green was starting to look confident at the crease before that moment. 7/112 after 44.

43rd over:  Another edge from Green that lands safely, flying through the slips cordon for a boundary. Green adds another four runs to finish off the set, again behind point. 6/111 after 43.

42nd over:  Carey looks to flick a ball through the leg-side but it seams off the pitch and narrowly avoids the outside-edge. He manages to guide one to the third-man region for two runs. 6/103 after 42.

41st over:  Green looks for the drive off Woakes but misses out, drawing a half-shout from the slips for caught-behind. He looks for a drive down the ground, but a good piece of fielding from Woakes off his own bowling stops any chance of runs. Another maiden for England. 6/101 after 41.

40th over:  Carey does not look comfortable at all here against Robinson. Inside-edges, plays and misses and false shots are becoming a mainstay of this battle. Another maiden for the big English seamer. 6/101 after 40.

39th over:  Green adds two more on the leg-side off Woakes, before a single takes Australia to the 100-run mark in their second innings. Carey inside-edges again, but it rolls away safely for a single. 6/101 after 39.

38th over:  Carey struggling against the probing bowling of Robinson, who forces a couple of plays and misses from the Aussie keeper. Maiden over. 6/97 after 38.

37th over: DRAMA!!! Carey plays a loose shot off Woakes and chops it straight onto his stumps, but the video replay shows a front-foot no-ball. This could be a very costly moment for England - ordinary stuff and it's been an issue for their bowling group all series. Green squeezes it through the cordon for three runs. 6/97 after 37.

36th over:  Robinson continuing after the drinks break. Forces a play and miss from Carey, as well as five dots, but lets the left-hander off the hook with an easy single off the final ball of the set. 6/91 after 36.

35th over:  Woakes pitches too full and too wide twice in a row, with two beautiful cover drives from Carey flying away to the boundary. Woakes readjusts and produces a few dots, including a thick inside-edge from Carey onto his pads. Lads taking a quick drinks break. 6/90 after 35.

34th over:  Carey plays and misses outside the off-stump, before getting himself off strike on the leg-side with a single. Green takes off for a quick single as well, before Carey takes on the mid-on fielder in Ben Stokes, who was caught napping a little bit. Green flicks it down the vacant fine-leg region for his first boundary. 6/81 after 34.

33rd over:  Chris Woakes into the attack now for England and he manages to draw the edge of Green first ball, but it lands in front of the cordon safely. Maiden over. 6/74 after 33.

32nd over:  Green looking to be patient and defensive early in his innings. Carey adds two more runs to his score. 6/74 after 32.

31st over:  Wood continuing to steam in for England, searching for a five-fa. Carey does very well to dig out a yorker on leg-stump. 6/71 after 31.

30th over:  Ollie Robinson into the attack for the first time today. Carey flicks off his pads for two runs, before driving to mid-on for a single. Green leans on a ball and finds the gap through cover for two runs, getting himself off the mark. 6/69 after 30.

29th over:  WICKET!!! Smith couldn't help himself and hooks a short-ball from Wood right down Dawid Malan's throat at fine-leg. Poor shot from the vice-captain after just losing the wicket of Head. Great bowling from Wood, finally getting the rewards for a top-notch series in a struggling outfit. Wood continues the bumper barrage, as keeper Alex Carey ducks under his first few balls at the crease. Green almost gets run out but a direct hit misses from Root. 6/64 after 30.

28th over:  Smith flicks off his pads again - looking far better than he has for a lot of this series. Another two shouts from Broad for LBW, this time rapping Green on the pads a couple of times in a row, but it was given not-out by the umpire. 5/63 after 28.

27th over:  WICKET!!! The continued short-ball attack from Wood to Head pays off, as the left-hander is caught by Billings down the leg-side. Head never looked comfortable at all and will walk off disappointed with his dismissal, failing to back up his first innings brilliance. Cameron Green cops a short ball in the shoulder, but shrugs it off - tough lad. 5/60 after 27.

26th over:  Head drives on the up through the off-side, but it lands safely as Rory Burns saves four runs on the boundary. He goes after it again, but plays and misses this time. 4/59 after 26.

25th over:  Smith pulls it safely for a single. Plenty of short stuff to Head, who is unable to get Wood away. 4/55 after 25.

24th over:  Head drives through cover and point for a single. Smith flicks it to deep square-leg for another single off his pads, as Broad continues to look for that LBW dismissal. Head plays a lovely on-drive that pierces the in-field and rolls away for a boundary. 4/54 after 24.

23rd over:  WICKET!!! Nice bumper from Wood to Boland, but the nightwatchman does well to evade it. The very next ball, Boland edges a rising delivery straight to Sam Billings behind the stumps. Simple plan for Wood pays off as they dismissing the Victorian, but they will want to make inroads with Smith and Travis Head before the game gets away from them. Head pops it up from a short ball but it lands safely, as former England captain Michael Vaughan questions the absence of a short-leg early on to the left-hander. 4/48 after 23.

"If they had the right field, he (Head) would have been out first ball," Vaughan said on  Fox Cricket.

"I don't mind the tactics, but you've got to have a short-leg."

22nd over:  Smith looks for the big cover drive, but almost inside-edges it back onto his own stumps. Smith flicks Broad for a boundary through mid-wicket for a boundary the next ball, classy stroke. Smith walks across and looks for the flick again, but is trapped on the pads - no review from England though. Another big appeal from Broad is given not-out on the field, and skipper Joe Root chooses not to review it. Both deliveries were going over the top of the stumps, so it turned out to be wise captaincy. 3/47 after 22.

21st over:  Scott Boland drives Mark Wood down the ground and the Aussie pair run four as it halts just short of the rope. A half-chance at gully falls short, and Boland scurries through for a single. 3/43 after 21.

20th over:  Stuart Broad kicks things off for England. Steve Smith is able to let a few go early in the set, as the Barmy Army belt out a lovely rendition of Jerusalem. Broad forces Smith to play later at a couple of deliveries later in the over, but no runs come from it. 3/37 after 20.

2.15pm:  Welcome back to  Sporting News'  live blog for the final Test match of The Ashes series in Hobart. Australia lead by 152 runs, but are in a spot of bother at 3/37 in their second dig. England were rolled for just 188 on day two, and will need to find plenty more with bat and ball in the second innings if they are any chance of forcing a result. Steve Smith (17*) and nightwatchman Scott Boland (3*) will walk to the crease shortly, with play set to begin at 2.30pm.
