Scotland narrowly defeated the Wallabies 15-13 at Murrayfield to end Australia's five-match winning streak overnight.

The first of a three-match tour of Britain, the Wallabies conceded two tries to one as they struggled to make a host of good field position count.

Coach Dave Rennie said his side were "incredibly disappointed" and pointed to ill-discipline in possession as a key factor in the defeat.

"It was a tough game because we just struggled to get things going. We got penalised a bit in possession when we thought we had them under pressure," Rennie said.

"We struggled to get our game going in the last 20 as well.

"They did a great job of defending the maul and I think there was a handful of decisions that we made and the ref that shaped the last 20.

"We’ve got to take it on the chin. We’ve got to be better [with our] discipline and be more accurate.

"We didn’t play anywhere near as well as we’d like to. We’ve got to be able to build pressure for longer."

Captain Michael Hooper expressed frustration at the decision to sinbin Allan Alaalatoa for a high cleanout before half-time.

"You can’t be serious," Hooper told referee Romain Poite. "I can’t believe that."

Rob Leota scored Australia's only try after some strong work from Izaia Perese shortly after the break.

After the game, the skipper admitted the loss was a tough one to take.

"That’s a setback today," Hooper said, promising to hit back against England next week.

"The motivation was about going well today and continuing the momentum we’ve built in the year. The fire in the belly hasn’t extinguished at all. After that, it’s raised."

Rennie echoed those sentiments ahead the clash at Twickenham next Sunday morning (4:30am AEDT).

"We’ve got more in us. We certainly need to be a lot better and we need to be a lot better against England," Rennie said.
