Departing Broncos playmaker Anthony Milford has been arrested following an alleged assault on Sunday night.

Queensland Police confirmed on Monday morning a 27-year-old had been arrested and charged with three counts of assault and one of causing wilful damage following an incident in Fortitude Valley.

The Broncos also released a statement, distancing themselves from the matter.

"Anthony Milford has completed his contractual duties with the Brisbane Broncos," a club statement read.

"He is on leave and due to begin a new NRL contract elsewhere at the commencement of the 2022 pre-season.

"As the matter is now before the courts, the Broncos will make no further comment."

The NRL Integrity Unit has been informed of the situation and is investigating.

Milford has played his last game for Brisbane and will be officially off contract at the end of October.

After seven seasons at the Broncos, Milford heads to South Sydney on a one-year deal in the hope of reigniting his career.

The 27-year-old departs Red Hill after a difficult few years in which his form dropped well below that expected from a player earning around $1 million per season.

Milford played 13 first-grade games in 2021, often finding himself out of the side as Kevin Walters searched for his best halves combination.

"It’s been a tough year for a lot of players and Milf is certainly in that category," Walters said following the Broncos' round 25 win over Newcastle.

"He is a happy lad in there now and he’s off to Souths next year, they’ve got a good one."
