'Fate is in our own hands': Wests Tigers full of belief following another Adam Doueihi switch

Wests Tigers utility Adam Doueihi has been shifted in and out of the halves all season, but his performance on Sunday afternoon should cement him in the No.6 jumper.

The 22-year-old was instrumental in the Tigers' 42-24 victory over the Brisbane Broncos, laying on five try assists and running for close to 150 metres.

After spending time in the centres in recent months, Doueihi was shifted back to five-eighth after recent losses to Parramatta, Melbourne and South Sydney.

The local junior admitted that he prefers being in the halves, but is comfortable wherever Michael Maguire decides to play him.

“I like being in the six jersey, I feel like I get my hands on the ball more," he said.

"I can sort of dictate play instead of waiting for the ball to come to me. I thought especially our right-edge attack were really good yesterday and piled on some points.

“I did most of the pre-season at six, but when I moved to centre it wasn’t too bad of a move. To be honest, I don’t mind where he moves me to – I’m pretty versatile like that and can handle most positions in the backline.

"The six jersey was good for me yesterday, so hopefully I’m back in that this week."

Doueihi also slotted five conversions in the win over Brisbane, which places them back in the hunt for the top eight.

St George Illawarra are sitting in 7th spot on 18 points but have a tough run home, while the Sharks, Raiders and Knights are all just two points ahead of the Tigers.

Doueihi believes the business end of the season will be a big test for them up in the Queensland hub, but one they are ready to face.

“This trip up here is a pretty big sacrifice for us as a Sydney club," he said.

"We want to look back and know we did ourselves proud and everyone back in Sydney proud. We want to make the sacrifice worthwhile, and if we can sneak into the eight it’s a massive bonus for us.

“We sort of verse teams that are all around us to finish the season. If we want to be genuine chances in this comp, we’ve got to win these games and it will put us in the eight.

"The fate is in our hands and we’ll see what happens."

David Nofoaluma echoed the sentiments of Doueihi and feels the next two months is a huge opportunity for the Concord-based outfit.

“I think there definitely is an opportunity for us to really push to make the eight," he said.

"That’s something that we are really focused on, and it’s definitely an opportunity for us to take advantage of being here in Brisbane together.

“We don’t want to think about previous or what has happened in the past. I think where things are at with training and stuff, I think we’ve found a good place.

"I think that’s what we’ve been thinking about and been working on – especially defensively."

The win over Brisbane came just 24 hours before the first episode of new behind-the-scenes documentary surrounding the Tigers.

Doueihi admitted he is nervous to see what transpires when the series airs on Fox League

“I’m a bit nervous actually...it will be a good watch I guess," he said.

"I think a few of the players get mic’d up in the games and you’ll see what happens at training and stuff.

"It’s inside the four walls that fans don’t really get access to. I’m actually excited to see how it comes out this evening."

Nofoaluma is also excited to see the finished product in the four-part documentary series.

“A few times you forget they’re even in the room or anywhere," he said.

"I’m sure they’ve cut out some stuff – I don’t know what to expect. I’m definitely excited to see it and I think it’s the first one a club has done or Fox have done."
