Manly Sea Eagles re-sign 'invaluable' utility Karl Lawton until end of 2024 season

Manly Sea Eagles utility Karl Lawton has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

Already contracted for next season, the 25-year-old has impressed Manly officials and will now remain part of the club long-term after an impressive first year.

Lawton is a hooker by trade, but spent much of the 2021 season in the second-row or coming off the bench, providing great utility value for the Sea Eagles.

Manly coach Des Hasler lauded his dedication after moving across from the Warriors, and described Lawton as an 'invaluable' asset to the club.

"Karl is an extremely dedicated player who works very hard on his game. He played really well in the back-row and his ability to cover both positions is certainly invaluable," he said.

“I’m looking forward to developing Karl’s game even further over the next few seasons.”

Lawton has played 61 first grade games to date across stints with the Titans, Warriors and Sea Eagles, and is one of the more underrated players in the competition.

"I have really loved my time here at the Sea Eagles," he said.

"There is a great camaraderie amongst the playing group and across the club.

"There is a great feeling of confidence about what we can achieve here at Manly in the coming years and I can't wait to get back into it."

The news of Lawton's extension comes just a day after Manly re-signed Dylan Walker for 2022
