St George Illawarra Dragons rebuild continues as Feagai twins re-sign until end of 2024 NRL season

Max and Mat Feagai have both re-signed with the St George Illawarra Dragons for a further two years, keeping them at the club until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

The 20-year-old twin brothers have been at the Dragons since a young age, and were a part of the SG Ball premiership-winning team alongside a host of other young stars.

Mat played eight games in his rookie season, and upon the news of his extension spoke about the impact the club have had on their lives and why they decided to stay in the Red V.

"The Dragons have been a big part of both our lives," he said.

"We were both keen on staying beyond this coming season.

"I've had a taste of first grade now and I want to continue playing week-in, week-out; that will be what I'll be working hard towards this pre-season and beyond.

"Hopefully I'll be able to play a lot more games alongside Max too."

Max made his NRL debut at the end of 2020 but was only able to add four appearances this year, after suffering a concussion that sidelined him for a lengthy period.

"We often talk about how special an opportunity this has been at the Dragons. We are so happy to re-sign and to continue making our family proud," he said.

"Hopefully I can stay healthy this season and play a lot more games than I did last year all with the goal to cement a spot in the NRL team."

The extension of both Feagai twins comes as the Dragons continue to rebuild their roster after years of mediocrity.

New recruits for 2022 include Jaydn Su'A and Francis Molo, while the club have also locked in the likes of Tyrell Sloan and Talatau Amone on long-term deals.

"Mat and Max have both proven over the last year that they have the ability to perform in the NRL and their retention is definitely one for all members, partners and fans to be excited about," head of football Ben Haran said.

"The twins' continued commitment to the club is yet another example for any aspiring footballers throughout our junior systems that the Dragons can provide a strong pathway through to first grade."

The next step for the Dragons will be to re-sign young playmaker Jayden Sullivan, who is off-contract at the end of next year.
