New Zealand Warriors prop Jamayne Taunoa-Brown granted early release, set to sign with rival NRL club

Jamayne Taunoa-Brown has been granted an early release by the New Zealand Warriors, and will take up a deal with a rival NRL club.

The 24-year-old has featured in 32 games for the Warriors, and also moved to the Dragons on a short-term loan in 2021

Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan praised the prop for his rise to first grade, but unfortunately he wasn't going to be offered a deal for 2022 and beyond.

“Jamayne has asked for a release from his current contract and it has been granted,” he said.

“Unfortunately we were unable to offer him a contract beyond 2022 so, with his best interests in mind, we’ve reluctantly agreed to let him go so he can accept a long-term offer for his future and security.

“It’s unfortunate to lose Jamayne as we have seen him progress from the Intrust Super Cup at Brisbane Norths to train and trial then a top 30 contract but we couldn’t stand in his way of accepting such a good offer considering our current crop of middles.

“We thank him for his efforts and wish him well moving forward.”

The news comes just days after David Fusitu'a was granted an early release from the club, with the star winger moving to the Super League club Leeds Rhino next year.

Taunoa-Brown's new club is yet to be revealed, with an announcement expected soon.
