The richest race in Australia returns for its fifth year in 2021, promising to showcase some of the fastest thoroughbreds in the country.

Five horses have been confirmed at this stage for the 1200m dash, and come October 16th, all eyes will be on what is fast becoming one of Australia’s most hotly-anticipated races.

Last year, Classique Legend took out the race in brilliant fashion. Other previous winners include Yes Yes Yes (2019) and Redzel (2017 and 2018).

WHEN IS THE EVEREST?

The Everest is scheduled for Saturday, October 16th.

Since its inaugural event in 2017, the race has taken place on the second Saturday in October each year.

WHERE IS THE EVEREST RUN?

The Everest takes place at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney’s East.

The track is roughly 6km from the CBD of Sydney and is one of the city’s most iconic racing venues.

Twelve of the fastest horses in Australia will compete for a total of $14 million in prize money at this year’s race.

The Everest is the richest in Australia, and the richest on turf in the world.

HOW TO WATCH THE EVEREST?

Broadcast guides are yet to be released for 2021, although it is expected that Channel 7 will show the race on free-to-air TV as it has for the past few years.

Sky Racing will also broadcast the big race, as they have in previous years.

HOW TO BUY TICKETS FOR THE EVEREST?

At this stage, it is unlikely The Everest will have fans in attendance due to the ongoing COVID outbreak in Sydney.

WHAT CONDITIONS ARE THE EVEREST RUN UNDER?

The Everest is an Australian Turf Club weight for age, thoroughbred horse race.

HOW DO HORSES APPLY FOR THE RACE?

The Everest is a slot race, which means that slot-holders pay for a horse to be included in the race.

Typically, investors pay $600,000 in advance and then find a horse to fill the slot.

In an effort to control quality, only 12 horses may enter the race.

WHICH HORSE WON THE EVEREST LAST YEAR?
