Former Test cricketer Michael Slater has been arrested and charged after allegedly breaching an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO).

NSW Police confirmed a 51-year-old man was arrested in Manly on Wednesday after an investigation into a reported breach of AVO.

Slater was refused bail and appeared in Manly Local Court on Wednesday.

"About 10.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 14 December 2021), officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command commenced an investigation into reports of a breach of AVO," a NSW Police statement read.

"Following inquiries, about 7.45am today (Wednesday 15 December), police arrested a 51-year-old man on West Promenade, Manly.

"The man was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic), use carriage service to menace/harass/offend, and breach of bail.

"He was refused bail, to appear before Manly Local Court today."

Slater was arrested in October and charged with stalking/intimidating his partner.

According to the ABC, Slater was on Wednesday granted bail under "very, very strict" conditions.

The former cricketer and commentator has reportedly been placed on house arrest, must notify police when he is admitted or discharged from hospital and is not permitted to possess or use a phone.

Slater's lawyer informed the court his client was dealing with an alcohol disorder and "slipped up" on Tuesday evening when he bombarded the complainant with calls and texts.
