Two of Australia's top heavyweights were set to meet in February before COVID-19 got in the way.

Justis Huni and Joe Goodall were due step into the ring in Brisbane on February 4, but the fight has been postponed and will now take place later in the year.

Huni (5-0), 22, has been touted as the country's best heavyweight prospect in generations and justified that hype when he won the Australian title on professional debut.

He's since gone on to record four further wins without defeat, including a 10-round battering of Paul Gallen back in June.

A hand injury sustained in that fight prevented him from competing at the Olympics where he was considered a serious gold medal chance.

His opponent, 29-year-old Goodall (7-0-1) also boasts an unbeaten professional record and a 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medal.

The fight represents the sternest test of both men's professional careers and should see the winner climb the rankings towards the world's elite big boys.

When is Huni vs. Goodall

An announcement from promoter D&L Events confirmed Huni and Goodall would now meet on Wednesday, June 1.

The fight was postponed after Huni contracted COVID-19 twice in the space of several weeks, once on a training camp in the US and again shortly after returning home.

Goodall is currently based in Las Vegas working under Kiwi trainer Kevin Barry and sparring highly rated heavyweights such as Jared Anderson and Efe Ajagba.

Expect both men to come into this one in career-best shape.

Where is Huni vs. Goodall

Appropriately, Huni and Goodall will fight at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Huni hails from Logan in Brisbane's south and Goodall, originally from Bendigo, lived and trained at the River City's Stretton Boxing Club for nine years.

As two of the best heavyweights in Brisbane, the pair got plenty familiar with each other, sparring on several occasions over the years.

"We’ve done hundreds of rounds," Goodall said of their history.

"What happens in the gym stays in the gym, that’s for the books after our careers.

"I kind of knew ever since he turned pro we were probably going to be on a collision course. There’s no second place in boxing, you’ve got to find out who’s the best."

Both camps have shown plenty of respect for each other in the build up but don't expect that to extend to the fight.

"We just think this is a great opportunity for the two best heavyweights in Australia to make a name for themselves," Huni's trainer and father Rocki said.

"I don’t believe we can go out internationally when we haven’t beaten the best here in Australia and that’s our whole aim."

Goodall's trainer Barry assured Huni he'd be facing the best version of Goodall.

"One thing I can promise Justis and Rocki, there’ll be no trainer that they’ll come across who will study and study and study everything that you do and implement with his fighter to the best of his ability," Barry said.

"If Joseph Goodall cant beat Justis Huni it’s because he’s not good enough, it won’t be because he’s not prepared."
