Boxing's lightweight division might just be the deepest in the sport and Olympian Harry Garside is desperate to add his name to the mix.

The Tokyo bronze medallist makes his professional debut on Wednesday night, taking on 9-1 Fijian Sachin Mudaliar as co-main to Paul Gallen and Darcy Lussick in Sydney.

Garside, 24, passed his first test on Tuesday, successfully coming in under the 61kg lightweight limit, a weight he hasn't competed at for several years.

"I haven’t been under 63kg for a while, it was a bit of a push to get under. I was about 63kg when I woke up this morning and dropped two kilos, so I was only really dehydrated for about an hour," Garside told Sporting News.

"Come tomorrow I’ll probably be 65 or 66kg stepping into the ring.

"This was the test, to see how hard it was to make 61kg. It’s a really good weight and I feel really comfortable and, providing I perform well tomorrow night, I’ll stay here for a few years I reckon."

Fellow Aussie George Kambosos recently shook up the division when he pulled off an upset win over Teofimo Lopez to become unified champ at 135 pounds.

It's a weight class big on both skill and star power - Vasyl Lomachenko, Gervonta 'Tank' Davis, Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia all ply their trade at lightweight.

Garside, who has been working with legendary coach Johnny Lewis since making the switch to the professional ranks, wants to emulate the success of his countryman.

"I’m 24, there’s no real rush but in the next few years I definitely want to be up and challenging for a world title and then aim to unify the belts," he added.

"When I was an amateur I was focusing on the pinnacle of that sport and now as a professional I want to focus on the pinnacle and that’s being unified champion and the aim is to do it in one weight division and, if I’m still young enough, do it in another weight division.

"If you’re not searching for the top, then go do something else, that’s my belief."

And while Garside's goals might have him on a collision course with Kambosos, he isn't about to go calling him out without a professional fight to his name.

"I’ve got to do my time. He’s done his time and he’s earned the right to call himself the king of Australian boxing," Garside said.

"I’ve got to prove that I’m worthy. But eventually of course I want to fight the best, simple as that. I want to fight all the people in the division.

"[Lomachenko], I've got him tattooed on my leg, I want to fight him, I want to fight Kambosos, I want to fight Lopez, I want to fight them all.

"That's what I've always wanted to do, to fight the best to see where I stack up against them."
