Aussie rising star Brock Jarvis secured a fifth-round TKO win over Alejandro Frias Rodriguez in Frenso, California.

The 23-year-old Sydneysider had it far from his own way as his Mexican opponent showed impressive resilience and even had Jarvis in desperate trouble in the second round.

Jarvis was an unbackable favourite as he made his US debut and things looked to be going to plan after the first frame as he scored to the body of his opponent.

The contest was turned on its head when Frias landed some heavy counter shots in the second, rocking the Jeff Fenech-trained Australian.

Only some suspect refereeing and the ropes prevented a knockdown at one point as Frias poured on the pressure looking to end the fight.

Jarvis eventually, somehow made it to the bell and back to his corner.

Having got his legs back under him in the third, Jarvis returned to his trademark high-pressure, inside style of fighting, happy to take one to give a couple.

By the fourth round Jarvis was back in control, endlessly pressure his 25-year-old opponent against the ropes, ripping shots to the body and upstairs.

That continued in the fifth round before the referee had seen enough, stopping the fight, much to the frustration of many members of the crowd at Chukchansi Park.

The win improves Jarvis' record to 20-0 with 18 knockouts.

More to come.
