Nine NBL Players Charged Following Explosive Second Round Tussles

Sydney and Illawarra fight

Nine NBL players have been fined, and one suspended, following two separate physical altercations during the league's second round.

Players from both Melbourne and South-East Melbourne, as well as players from Sydney and Illawarra have been charged by the NBL’s Game Review Panel following incidents from both games.

Melbourne United’s Mason Peatling was the sole player suspended, initially facing a two-game suspension before an early guilty plea saw this drop to a one game suspension and a $375 fine. This means Peatling will miss Melbournes Thursday clash against the Sydney Kings.

David Barlow was the only other United player charged, accepting an early guilty plea and being fined $375 for leaving the bench during a brawl. United assistant coach also accepted an early guilty plea for Unsportsmanlike behavior and was charged $375.

For South-East Melbourne, Mitch Creek, Izayah Le’afa, and Kyle Adnam were all charged with ‘Engaging in a Melee/Brawl’, with all accepting early guilty pleas and being fined $375.

The Melbourne incident came after Mason Peatling knocked Mitch Creek to the ground, following Creek’s celebration of a dunk over Matthew Dellavedova.

It was a similar story for Sydney and Illawarra; Kings’ players Xavier Cooks and Angus Glover and Hawks’ players Sam Froling and Justinian Jessup were all charged with ‘Engaging in a Melee/Brawl’. Again, all took an early guilty plea and were fined $375.

The incident between these two teams came after Glover attempted to step over Froling while he was laid on the ground, resulting in a brawl on the baseline.
