Brad Arthur has signed a two-year extension to remain as Parramatta Eels head coach until at least the end of the 2024 NRL season.

The new deal for Arthur comes despite a mountain of speculation towards the end of this season suggesting he was on borrowed time at the Eels after the way the club stumbled towards the finals.

Arthur's side lost five of their last seven games in the run home to the finals, which saw them drop out of the top four after earlier in the season posing as a genuine chance of ending their premiership-drought, which now sits at 36 years.

A commanding victory over ladder-leaders Melbourne in round 24, plus a convincing finals display that saw the Eels almost eliminate premiers Penrith in the semi-finals, is understood to have helped Arthur's cause.

Having been appointed as head coach back in 2014, Arthur's new extension will see him surpass Brian Smith as Parramatta's longest-ever serving coach.

“I love being at this Club and I think we are creating a great environment to be a part of.

"I value the relationship I have with our staff and our playing group, they challenge me every day and it’s been exciting to see the positive impact that our younger players have had on our squad.

"The best is yet to come from this team, so I'm excited to confirm my future at the Club.”
